Conservation Coin of the Month
If you are seeing spots looking at the “before” images of this 1903 $20, you are certainly not alone. A numismatist recently submitted this coin in hopes of removing the eruption of small red spots all over the surface. These spots, known commonly as “copper spots,” are due to improper alloying of the metal. These unsightly spots can often be found on the surfaces of gold coins. The conservation experts at NCS were able to remove the spots, resulting in a coin that looks beautiful and natural. This coin was able to grade with NGC following the conservation.
