Conservation Coin of the Month
A bright natural Liberty Nickel is a bright spot of any numismatist’s US type set collection. But, the appearance of this particular Liberty Nickel was far from something of pride for one numismatist.
This 1907 Liberty Nickel was recently submitted for NCS professional conservation. The dark brown splotchy toning and gray haze were hiding an attractive coin underneath. Such thick residues, if left, can lead to permanent damage to the surface of the coin. Careful conservation work was done to remove the oddly colored toning to reveal a bright coin beneath. This coin was able to grade with NGC following the professional conservation.
