“Taping it” may be a good idea when your favorite sitcom is on at the same time as your local coin club meeting, but when it comes to your coins, “taping it” is not a good idea at all. Besides the list of chemicals in the adhesive and the tape itself that may not be conducive to optimum coin care, the tape itself will often turn colors that do not make for attractive toning. Now there is a substance adhered to the surface of a coin that is difficult to remove.

Removal of tape residues is one of the frequent tasks the conservators at NCS perform. After years of adherence to the surface, tape residues can be a stubborn residue to remove. After careful removal of the tape residue on this otherwise white silver dollar, the coin was able to grade numerically with NGC.
