The original mint packaging of modern coins can often be less than desirable. The problems are often two fold. Questionable materials as well as less than air tight holders can cause a hazy residue on the surface of a modern coin which is aesthetically distracting as well as reduce a potential grade when it is time to certify.

This 2001 China Panda 10 Yuan coin was submitted to NCS using the modern coin special rate that includes both conservation and grading for one low price. The D signifies that this coin was intended for domestic distribution within China. Original mint packing in combination with less-than-ideal storage conditions combined to leave a strong tone and haze on this silver Chinese Panda coin that is important to remove. The conservators at NCS were able to remove the residue and undesirable toning from this coin allowing the best possible scenario for optimum grade.
