Conservation Showcase: China 1992 100 Yuan
Posted on 7/22/2013
Here's a recent example from our conservation laboratory.
This gold coin was issued to honor the red spotted ox. If only that were true then this particular coin would be perfectly acceptable. All kidding aside, this China 1992 gold 100 Yuan proof coin exhibits a feature that is most undesirable in modern gold coins. Red spots can appear making a coin less attractive.
At NCS, we have developed techniques to remove these unsightly red spots. After removing the spots from the surface of this proof gold coin, it was able to grade very well with NGC.
